Gaming on Linux

  • PlayOnLinux

Minecraft

There is a Minecraft server at minecraft.devdungeon.com. For more articles and videos, see: https://www.devdungeon.com/content/minecraft. Minecraft is written in Java and runs on all major platforms. Minecraft requires purchase to play.

EvE Online

I run a corporation in EvE Online called Elite Space Hackers. We maintain a wiki related to EvE Online at https://www.evecommander.net/. I enjoy playing EvE Online in Linux using Wine and it runs flawlessly but it also runs on Windows and Mac. EvE Online is free-to-play but requires a subscription to fully unlock all features.

StarCraft II

I have been playing RTS games since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans in the 90s. RTS is probably my favorite genre and I enjoy playing StarCraft II in Linux using Wine and it runs flawlessly, but it also runs on Windows and Mac. There is a free-to-play version available.

Rocket League

Rocket League is a fun game that I enjoy playing on Nintendo Switch, or PC with XBox controller. In 2021 Epic decided to stop supporting the Linux version so now you can't play online in Linux. How disappointing.

Conway's Game of Life

Game of Life is a 0-player game that is fun to watch. I have written versions in Python, Go, Ruby, and Rust. Some are available online:
